"le grand rouge" 2003

duration: 10:00 min, music: ignas krunglevicius, single channel DV video

le grand rouge is an emotional video choreography to the music of composer Raymond Ingar Berge based on the original sound track, Gustav Mahler's Chamber Symphony #2. The work describes how one can experience alienation in relation to other quantities than ourselves. It comments on the fact that we conceive micro- and macro-cosmos as outer realities, knowing that we are a part of them, and they are a part of us.

The basis for the images in the video le grand rouge, was the feeling that these quantities could be characterized through a course of events, size or dimension, and through an absence of light. The images can be seen as variations of the theme that is introduced in the beginning of the video: a spherical shape mutating and becoming clusters of shapes.

The title, le grand rouge refers to Luc Besson's film le grand bleu. The video insists on the emotional aspect in experiencing the world and is a tribute to the heart.
